Integrated Trauma and Attachment Therapy
The Integrated Trauma and Attachment Therapy Model (ITATM) is a comprehensive, brain-based therapeutic approach designed to help individuals heal from the lasting effects of trauma, attachment wounds, adverse childhood experiences, and chronic patterns of emotional distress. ITATM recognizes that many of the challenges people experience in adulthood are not simply about present-day symptoms, but are often rooted in unresolved experiences that shaped how they learned to view themselves, others, and the world around them.
Trauma can impact far more than memory. It can influence the nervous system, emotional regulation, relationships, self-worth, sense of safety, and the ability to trust, connect, and feel secure. Attachment experiences—particularly those that occur early in life—play a significant role in how we develop coping mechanisms, relationship patterns, beliefs, and emotional responses.
ITATM integrates multiple evidence-based approaches to address these deeper layers of healing. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, this model works to understand and heal the underlying experiences that continue to influence present-day thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationship dynamics.
Through ITATM, clients may experience:
• Greater understanding of how past experiences continue to impact present-day functioning
• Improved emotional regulation and nervous system stability
• Increased self-awareness and self-compassion
• Healing of attachment wounds and relational patterns
• Reduced feelings of shame, self-criticism, and inadequacy
• Improved sense of safety, trust, and connection
• Greater resilience and emotional flexibility
• Healthier relationships with self and others
• Increased confidence and self-worth
What to Expect
Sessions may involve exploring childhood experiences, relationship patterns, emotional triggers, nervous system responses, coping strategies, and deeply held beliefs that developed through past experiences. Clients are supported in understanding how these patterns originated and how they may be influencing current challenges.
The focus is not on blaming the past, but on understanding how past experiences shaped survival strategies that may no longer be serving you.
ITATM May Be Helpful For:
• Complex Trauma (C-PTSD)
• Childhood trauma and adverse childhood experiences
• Attachment wounds and relational trauma
• Anxiety and chronic stress
• Depression and low self-worth
• Emotional dysregulation
• Relationship difficulties and recurring interpersonal patterns
• Abandonment, rejection, or trust concerns
• Shame and self-criticism
• People-pleasing and boundary challenges
• Identity and self-worth concerns
• Difficulties feeling safe, connected, or emotionally secure
The goal of Integrated Trauma and Attachment Therapy is to help individuals move beyond survival-based patterns and create a stronger foundation of safety, connection, and self-understanding. As healing occurs, clients often find they are no longer reacting from old wounds but are able to engage with life, relationships, and themselves from a place of greater confidence, security, and emotional freedom.
